"A vacation is having nothing to do and all day to do it in." -- Robert Orben
Today was a nice day despite the lousy weather -- my first Father's Day as a new dad, spent with loved ones; the first day of summer and the longest day of the year; and my last day off before going back to work after two weeks of paternity leave. With a baby, it might be a long time until my wife and I can go on a "real" vacation, but I'll make do. Staycations and Daycations can be just as relaxing, rewarding, and fun. I started thinking about the vacations I'd been on, and here are my favorites, in case you're looking for places to go this summer.
St. Lucia -- Juliana and I spent our honeymoon here at the Sandals Grande resort. All-inclusives are the way to go. Wonderful island that felt as close to Hawaii as we could get in the Caribbean.
Turks and Caicos -- Best beaches I've ever seen. Spent a long weekend at the Club Med here with my wife and my sister Vera. Lots of fun. The water is incredibly clear and blue. Fun place to go with a bunch of friends.
Dominican Republic -- The Excellence Resort in Punta Cana is one of the best values you will ever find. Great restaurants, relaxing pools, terrific nightly entertainment, all you can eat and drink. One of the best vacations I've ever been on.
Orlando, Florida -- I've been here a few times and always had a great experience. Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, they're all lots of fun for all ages all year 'round.
Niagara Falls -- My dad took my sisters and me to the majestic falls when we were little kids and despite the long drive to get there we were amazed. Truly spectacular, day and night.
Los Angeles, California -- I haven't been there since I was a child, but I really loved it. I fell in love with Hollywood and came back to New York with a tan that made me unrecognizable to my baby sister.
Washington, DC -- Our nation's capital is full of interesting sites to see and great things to do for the whole family.
Red Lodge, Montana -- Mother Nature at her finest. Big Sky Country is worth the visit to see some awe-inspiring American landscape, and this little town is the perfect getaway.
New York City -- I've lived here my whole life and there truly is no other place like it on Earth. So much to see and do, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
