Celebrities Gone Too Soon

Yesterday's news of the tragic death of actress Brittany Murphy at the tender age of 32 (first reported on TMZ.com) made me think of all the celebrities who passed away before their time.  Any death is a tragedy, but dying before even hitting middle age makes me think of what could have been -- all that potential suddenly cut short.  Earlier this year, I wrote about my reaction to the deaths of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett, and then we saw Patrick Swayze lose his battle with cancer (and others of course in a year that seemed to be particularly brutal).  But unexpected deaths of young celebrities seem to hit me especially hard.

When I heard about the deaths of River Phoenix, Brandon Lee, Heath Ledger, Kurt Cobain, Tupac Shakur, and other talented young performers, it was like losing a good friend.  I can't help but think what the future might have held for them.

Brittany Murphy's legacy is a string of roles in movies like Clueless, Girl Interrupted, 8 Mile, Just Married, Happy Feet, and others. She was a hard worker who was in the business since she was a kid, and had a number of other projects coming out.

May she rest in peace.  She will be missed.
