Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables

Sylvester Stallone's next film, The Expendables, is being hyped by some fans as the best action-adventure movie the genre has ever seen.  Such a claim, of course, can only be proven once the film opens in August 2010, but the buzz surrounding the production continues to grow.  The biggest selling point for the movie is its cast of action stars.  The Expendables has the potential of being the action junkie's Ocean's Eleven.  Along with Sylvester Stallone, who also wrote and directed the film, it also stars Jason Statham, Jet Li, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, and Eric Roberts, with appearances by Bruce Willis, Danny Trejo, and even Arnold Schwarzenegger.

It would seem as if Stallone tried to cast any living, breathing action star who would agree to be in the film.  The only action stars who are noticably absent are Jean-Claude Van Damme, Vin Diesel, and Steven Seagal, (and Van Damme was apparently offered a role and turned it down, how sad is that?)

Will The Expendables turn out to be more than a guilt pleasure cult favorite?  Will it appeal to the masses and become a mainstream hit?  We'll find out later this year.
