Happy Star Wars Day!

May 4 is the unofficial Star Wars Day on which fans throughout the world express their admiration for the great franchise.  It stems from the pun "May the Fourth be with you!" Some might cringe at the silly play on the catch phrase "May the Force be with you," but I find it rather clever.

So today, put aside your hatred for the prequels and the Ewoks, don't stress about the over-commercialized nature of the saga, and just revel in the glory of the science fiction and fantasy epic.  Forget the criticisms about how Star Wars changed the film industry for the worse and remember all the many positive elements that George Lucas' movie brought to entertainment.

Star Wars helped spark my obsession with motion pictures, speculative fiction, and popular culture entertainment.  It opened up a doorway of imagination for millions of people since it first premiered in 1977 and it is still going strong today.  May 4 is a good day to share our appreciation for a movie that still manages to delight the kid in all of us.
