Thanks, Mr. Washington, and Welcome, Ms. Rashad

Denzel Washington, one of the greatest actors of our time and an alumnus of my alma mater Fordham University, has donated over $2 million to endow the Denzel Washington Chair in Theater at my alma mater and to establish a scholarship for an undergraduate student studying theater at the University.  Actress Phylicia Rashad has joined the Fordham faculty as the first person in that position.  Read all about it at Inside Fordham and Zap2It

Denzel, who graduated in 1977 from Fordham's College at Lincoln Center, has starred in more than 40 movies, winning Academy Awards for his performances in Glory and Training Day.  It's great to see him giving back to the university that helped nourish the foundation that led to his impressive career.  More importantly, his scholarship will allow someone else to pursue the dream of higher education, building their skills in and knowledge of the theatrical arts.

Phylicia Rashad is the perfect individual to fill the role of the first endowed Chair in Theater at Fordham.  Best known as Mrs. Huxtable in The Cosby Show, she won a Tony Award for A Raisin in the Sun

This is great news for Fordham's already impressive theater program.
