Promising Actors Who Fizzled

I've been rooting for Lindsay Lohan to make a comeback with her upcoming Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton bio-flick Liz and Dick, so I was disappointed to hear about her arrest for an alleged hit and run.  I think she has talent and it's a shame that she's let her personal life spiral so out of control and become tabloid fodder. Hopefully there's still time to salvage her career, which included such great early films as The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday, and Mean Girls. I even liked her in Herby Fully Loaded and I Know Who Killed Me.

There have been a bunch of actors whose early work made me think they would go far in Hollywood, but sadly they fizzled for one reason or another.

Edward Furlong burst on the scene as the young star of Terminator 2: Judgment Day.  Even though he has kept working on a bunch of other flicks through the years, they haven't really lived up to my expectations. Except for his role in American History X, almost everything else he did was forgettable, from Pet Sematary II to The Crow: Wicked Prayer.

I was blown away by the way Jason Scott Lee immersed himself in the lead role of Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story.  I had such high hopes that I went to see the next few movies in which he starred. My faith was dashed when I saw Rapa Nui, The Jungle Book, and one of the worst films of all time Map of the Human.

Where have you gone, Haley Joel Osment?  The young star of The Sixth Sense seemed destined for greatness, but the only semi-hit he's had since has been A.I.: Artificial Intelligence.

Macaulay Culkin was one of the biggest child stars of all time. The Home Alone franchise was huge, but try as he might, he couldn't really regain that glory, despite some valiant efforts, such as My Girl, The Good Son, Richie Rich, and even his interesting role in the short-lived TV series Kings.

Cuba Gooding, Jr. was so awesome in Jerry Maguire, earning a well-deserved Best Supporting Actor Academy Award.  What followed, however, has been a string of unimpressive roles in Pearl Harbor, Snow Dogs, and Red Tails.

Which actors grabbed your attention and then let you down with the roles and projects they did afterwards?
