Is This Finally the End of Futurama?

Boo to you, Comedy Central, for finally cancelling Futurama.  Although overshadowed by Matt Groening's other cartoon, The Simpsons, Futurama is still one of my favorites, mainly because of its science fiction setting, but also because of its zany characters and unpredictable storylines. I will miss the madcap adventures of Fry, Leela, Bender, Professor Farnsworth, Dr. Zoidberg, Amy, Hermes, Zapp Brannigan, Nibbler, and all the rest.  Legions of fans will join me in missing outrageous but hilarious scenarios such as the disembodied heads of historic figures.

The animated series has survived many ups and downs. It originally aired on the FOX broadcast network, where it was bumped around the schedule, frequently pre-empted, and finally let go to move on to the Cartoon Network. It ceased production and then was featured in new direct-to-video movies. It then aired on Comedy Central.

Futurama has a habit of surviving. Let's hope that this is not the end, but the beginning of yet another chapter.
