The Cast of Exodus

Every so often a movie has such a stellar lineup of top-notch actors and actresses in its cast that it fills me with anticipation that we might be in store for a film that might be truly special.  Lee Daniel's The Butler is a recent example, and so is Man of Steel. Whether or not all that talent is put to good use is difficult to predict, but the opportunity of seeing all those experienced thespians on the screen together makes it hard to resist. The latest all-star lineup is for Ridley Scott's Exodus, one of a string of biblically-themed projects in the works. (Thanks to my buddies at Geeks of Doom for the scoop.)

Christian Bale, who's already played Jesus and Batman, will lead the Hebrew people to the Promised Land as Moses.

Joel Edgerton might have tough shoes to fill making people forget Yul Brynner as Ramses, but he's been great in Warrior, Zero Dark Thirty, and The Great Gatsby (and I thought he was perfectly cast as the young Owen Lars in the Star Wars prequels, even if he was under-used.)

The always amazing Sigourney Weaver is set to play the role of Ramses' mother Tuya.

John Turturro steps in as Ramses' dad Seti.

Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad is in line to be Joshua.

The awesome Ben Kingsley will play a Hebrew scholar. (Personally, I think he'd be excellent as Moses' brother Aaron.)

Let's pray that it turns out to be a good movie worthy of such a cast.
