5 Theater Shows I Want to See in 2014

Time to look ahead to the stage shows coming to Broadway and Off-Broadway that I would like to see in the next few months.  (Hint: Tickets to these productions would make excellent Christmas gifts!)

Bronx Bombers -- I wanted to see this when it debuted Off-Broadway, now it's coming to Broadway. As a Yankees fan, how can I resist seeing actors portray legends like Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle, Reggie Jackson, Derek Jeter, and others. It opens February 6, 2014, at Circle in the Square, (Previews begin January 10).

Hedwig and the Angry Inch -- I've heard great buzz about this, but have never seen it, and not it's being revived starring Neil Patrick Harris. It opens April 22, 2014, at the Belasco Theater, (Previews begin March 29).

King Lear -- Frank Langella plays William Shakespeare's regal madman. It runs for a limited time at BAM's Harvey Theater, January 7 through February 9, 2014.

Macbeth -- I've been looking forward to Kenneth Branagh's version of one my favorite Shakespeare plays for a long time.  It opens June 5, 2014, for a limited engagement at the Park Avenue Armory, (Previews begin May 31).

Rocky -- Sylvester Stallone's franchise about the underdog who becomes champion of the world continues with a live musical adaptation. "Yo, Adrian!" It opens March 13, 2014, at the Winter Garden Theater, (Previews begin February 11.)
