Movies in May and June 2014

The unofficial start of summer is almost here. (Spring, we barely knew you.) Hollywood kicks off its blockbusters during these early months of the moviegoing season, so here's what we can expect this year.

WEEK-BY-WEEK MOVIE PICKS FOR MAY 2014

The Amazing Spider-man 2 (May 2) -- Our favorite webslinger continues to fight superpowered bad guys while battling the angst of being a teenager.

Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return (May 9) -- I think families will take their youngsters to see this latest animated renditions of the fantasy classics by L. Frank Baum, even though box office prognosticators aren't taking it too seriously.


Godzilla (May 16) -- The big green stomping monster returns, and this looks much better than the last American interpretation of the Toho legend.

X-Men: Days of Future Past (May 23) -- Time-hopping, mutant-battling superheroics and villainy are at their finest.

Maleficent (May 30) -- Angelina Jolie stars in a role she was born to play, a life-action look at the "Mistress of All Evil" from Sleeping Beauty.

Blended -- Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler reunite in another comedy as a couple of single parents who meet on a blind date.

God's Pocket -- Philip Seymour Hoffman appears in one of his final roles before his death.

Million Dollar Arm -- A struggling sports agent discovers two new pitchers while watching a cricket game in India on TV.


A Million Ways to Die in the West -- Seth MacFarlane delivers a comedy western.

Neighbors -- Seth Rogen and Zac Efron headline a comedy about a couple with a newborn baby who are forced to live next to a fraternity house.

Walk of Shame -- Elizabeth Banks stars as an aspiring TV anchor who has a horrendous, career-threatening experience after a one-night-stand.

WEEK-BY-WEEK PICKS FOR JUNE 2014

Edge of Tomorrow (June 6) -- Tom Cruise stars in another science fiction adventure.


How to Train Your Dragon 2 (June 13) -- My daughter is all set to see this long-awaited sequel to the animated hit.

Think Like a Man Too (June 20) --  Inspired by Steve Harvey's bestselling book, Act Like a Lady, this comedy sequel doesn't have any new competition opening up beside it.

Transformers: Age of Extinction (June 22) -- The latest robots in disguise chapter features Dinobots!
