Movies and Books That Had an Impact on Me

On Facebook, folks have been posting challenges and chain-games for a while, and every so often they "tag" me.  A variation of the same "game" came up twice this past week -- one to quickly name the books that impacted my life, and the other to do the same for movies.  It goes something like this:

List 10 books (movies) that have stayed with you in some way. Don't take more than a few minutes, and don't think too hard. It's not about the 'right book (movie)' or great works of literature (cinema), just ones that have affected you in some way. Doesn't have to be in order."

I've decided to accept the challenge here on my blog.  Thanks for thinking of me, Matt and Trish.  Here are my answers (and I couldn't list just 10, so I went up to 15):

Books that have stayed with me:

13 by Shanley by John Patrick Shanley
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain
Animal Farm by George Orwell
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
The Complete Works of Edgar Allan Poe
The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller
The Essential Ellison by Harlan Ellison
The Gospel of St. Mark
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
I, Robot by Isaac Asimov
It by Stephen King
Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne
Lord of the Flies by William Golding
The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury
A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare

Movies that have stayed with me:

Back to the Future
Blade Runner
Blazing Saddles
The Blues Brothers
Jaws
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
The Godfather (Parts I and II)

The Silence of the Lambs
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Wars (A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi)
Superman: The Movie (and Superman II)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day
The Wizard of Oz

In return, I challenge the rest of you to share your own book and movie lists with me.

Sort of defeats the whole purpose of the "pick 10 movies" game when you end up picking 20. Also, Terminator 2 was overrated.

Matt, I'm luck I was able to stop myself at 20. And T2 was excellent! :-)
