High-Rise (May 13)
Tom Hiddleston stars in this adaptation of J.G. Ballard's science fiction novel, which has here been turned into a dream-like period piece about people living in a tower as events spiral out of control.

The Angry Birds Movie (May 20)
The long-awaited animated film based on the popular mobile game is finally here with voice-work by Peter Dinklage, Jason Sudeikis, Keegan-Michael Key, Kate McKinnon, Sean Penn, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader, Danny McBride, Josh Gad, Hannibal Burress, and others.

X-Men: Apocalypse (May 27)
Director Bryan Singer continues the mutant superhero saga in this special-effects-heavy sequel.


Alice Through the Looking Glass
This sequel to Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland film (with a new director) continues the madcap adventures of Lewis Carroll's beloved heroine. Mia Wasikowska and Johnny Depp reprise their roles as Alice and the Mad Hatter. Anne Hathaway is the White Queen, Helena Bonham Carter is the Red Queen, Sacha Baron Cohen is Time, Michael Sheen voices the White Rabbit, and the late Alan Rickman voices the Blue Caterpillar.

The Darkness
Kevin Bacon stars in this horror tale in which a family inadvertently unleashes a supernatural force after returning from a vacation at the Grand Canyon.

Elstree 1976
This British documentary about the making of Star Wars: A New Hope was crowdfunded on Kickstarter. ("Elstree" is the name of the studio near London that George Lucas used to film his classic.)

Money Monster
On paper this looks like it should be a hit. Directed by Jodie Foster, starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts, it tells the story of a financial television host and his producer facing an angry investor who takes over their studio.

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising
Zac Efron and Seth Rogen return in this comedy sequel, this time alongside Chloe Grace Moretz and Selena Gomez.

The Nice Guys
Shane Black is the writer/director of this action crime comedy starring Russell Crowe and Rayan Gosling about a Los Angeles private investigator in the 1970s who uncovers a conspiracy after a porn star's apparent suicide.

Pele: Birth of a Legend
Here's a biopic about arguably the greatest soccer player of all time. The cast includes Vincent D'Onofrio, Colm Meaney, and newcomer Kevin de Paula in the lead.

This interesting documentary examines the disgraced Congressman as he seeks redemption and faces a new scandal in the race to be Mayor of New York City.


As I AM: The Life and Times of DJ AM
His real name was Adam Michael Goldstein and he died at the young age of 36. This documentary explores the quick rise and tragic death of the young actor, disc jockey, and Crazy Town musician.

Band of Outsiders
Jen-Luc Godard's 1964 French film is re-released. It's about two criminals with a passion for old Hollywood B-movies who recruit a languages student to help them with a robbery.

Being Charlie
Directed by Rob Reiner, a troubled young man falls in love with an equally damaged young woman in a drug rehab clinic.

A Bigger Splash
A vacation by a rock star and a filmmaker is disrupted by the unexpected arrival of an old friend and his daughter.  It stars Tilda Swinton, Ralph Fiennes, and Dakota Johnson.

In this Greek film, men on a luxury yacht in the Aegean Sea challenge each other to a game to see who is the best at everything, with the victor winning a trophy ring at the end.

Dark Horse

Holy Hell
Another documentary focuses on a California cult in the 1980s.

Kill Zone 2
Don't ask me what the first Kill Zone was about, because I have no idea, and apparently this is a new cast and storyline (about a police officer in Thailand trying to protect an undercover cop in prison) with no connection to it.

Last Days in the Desert
Ewan McGregor stars as Yeshua in this imagined expansion of the biblical reference to the 40 days and 40 nights that Jesus spent in the wilderness, where he was tempted by Satan, before he began his ministry.

The Lobster
Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz star in this wacky concept film about a dystopian future in which single people have to find a romantic partner or be turned into monsters and banished.

Love and Friendship
Whit Stillman directs this adaptation of Jane Austen's novella set in the 1790s about matchmaking on an aristocratic estate. It stars Kate Beckinsale and Chloe Sevigny.

Ma Ma
In this film from Spain, Penelope Cruz stars as a woman reacting to a tragedy.
